Why tech careers are less fun

They can tell the difference between technology as an investment and technology as a career choice. And 2001 showed it was not a wise career choice. For every tech zillionaire who survived the crash, tens of thousands of others ended up changing careers, which isn't easy after investing years at university to become a computer sciences graduate.

Tech is on the cutting edge of what many people think of as the future: no unions, no promises of steady work, and a completely mobile and pliant work force. How many jobs would be secure at Yahoo should Microsoft succeed in its hostile takeover bid?

Bubble or no bubble, there's another group that was really turned off working in technology: women. There have been massive co-ordinated efforts by universities to attract more women for comp-sci studies, even still fewer are enrolling now than before.

Amberjac Projects Battery Systems Help JCB Streamliner to 350mph

(CSRwire) Amberjac Projects Limited, a company in the United Kingdom, wish to congratulate Andy Green and the JCB Dieselmax team on their momentous 350mph world landspeed record attempt success. Amberjac Projects developed and built the battery systems and chargers for the JCB Streamliner. The team decided not to use an alternator to provide electrical power due to the reduction in engine power caused by an alternator under high load. The electrical systems, fuel pump, turbo waste, and ancillary equipment demand a very high current draw from the battery system for a sustained period over the speed runs. The environment that the battery system had to survive would be considered an abuse condition for many battery systems and the safety problems associated with traditional Lithium Ion batteries precluded their use.

Federer trounces Nadal at Masters

Ferrer, who has dropped only one set in four matches, was fresh, confident and sharp from the start, while Roddick seemed to be showing the effects of the short 20-hour turnaround from his loss to Federer the night before. Ferrer last played Thursday.

''Today I played very good,'' Ferrer said. ''Now I want to enjoy this moment.''

NFL: Two Titans miss practice

Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth and cornerback Nick Harper missed their fourth practice and are game-time decisions for Monday's game in Denver. Haynesworth has not practiced since hurting his right hamstring Nov. 4. Harper suffered a concussion in last week's game and has not practiced.

The Indianapolis Colts listed left tackle Tony Ugoh as doubtful for today's game against Kansas City and waived defensive tackle Dan Klecko.

Howard Studley – BNP

HOWARD STUDLEY wants to see Harrow residents paying less council tax, and is keen to paint his party as supporting low tax.

The British National Party candidate, who has lived in Harrow all his life, thinks crime is a problem in Harrow.

He said: "There are more than a thousand crimes committed in Harrow every month, it's not one of the worst boroughs in London but the crime rate is high and none of the other parties are dealing with it."

Mr Studley, 62, who is a retired engineer, thinks bin collections are not good enough in the borough. He wants all recycling and waste collected every week.

He is also keen to dispel what he calls a misconception about the British National Party.

He said: "We offer local people a choice.

Ford Hops Away From Hip Hopper Eminem

Ford Motor Co. was planning to place its new Fusion car in the Eminem video, "Ass Like That" in the hopes of creating some buzz around what is a pretty ho-hum style. While the automaker is keen to have some of Eminem's aura rub off on its product, the family-oriented Ford now says the song's lyrics were too racy for the Ford brand and backed out of the deal and even future dealings with the performer who hails from Detroit.

In the song, in reference to Gwen Stefani, Eminem asks, "Will you pee-pee on me please" and in reference to Jessica Simpson, Eminen sings, "Jessica Simpson, looks oh so temptin', Nick I ain't never seen an ass like that. Everytime I see that show on MTV my pee-pee goes doing, doing, doing." Apparently, it's a bit too hard for Ford's executives to get behind.

Now that’s really off-road... what’s your fantasy motor?

IT'S THE vehicle that would have made James Bond green with envy, not to mention a trifle damp - the first-ever underwater car.

Self-confessed 007 fanatic Frank Rinderknecht created the sQuba', which will go on show at the Geneva Motor Show next month.

The 1million (£750,000) prototype can dive to a depth of 30ft.

Its three electric motors are capable of taking it to 75mph on land, to 4mph while cruising in "boat" mode and a leisurely 2mph while underwater.

Dramatic 'Heavy Hitter' ads now considered OK

If an ad is found to be false or misleading, the attorney must pull it.

Other states handle advertising by lawyers differently. Florida, for example, restricts "manipulative" lawyer ads and goes so far as to bar attorneys from bragging about "past successes," according to the rules.

The Florida Supreme Court even upheld a complaint against a personal injury lawyer because his ad featured a pit bull wearing a spiked collar.

This, the justices said, invoked images of viciousness.

New York banned the use of terms like "Heavy Hitter" or "Dream Team" in 2006. Its rationale: It didn't want lawyers to imply success.

"They (New York and Florida) are very aggressive in their advertising regulations," said David Clark, deputy counsel at the Nevada Bar Association.

Hottest Hybrids of 2008

Hybrids are still niche vehicles, but at their current rate of growth, they could dominate the roads in another five or 10 years.

U.S. hybrid sales jumped more than 34 percent to a total of 338,851 in 2007, according to CNW Marketing Research in Bandon, Ore. The only other vehicle segment that grew faster than hybrids in 2007 was what CNW calls "budget cars." Sales of these small, inexpensive models, which include the Chevrolet Aveo, Honda Fit, and Toyota Yaris, grew at an astonishing rate of nearly 48 percent.

With rising gas prices and higher fuel economy standards mandated by the federal government, analysts expect hybrid technology to proliferate in the coming years. "You're going to see wider availability of hybrid powertrains as options on more and more vehicles," says David Wurster, president of the Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-based market research firm Vincentric.
