| Deal clears way for single open-wheel series in America
The open-wheel deal that had to happen finally did. The Indy Racing League and the Champ Car World Series completed a deal Friday to unify the two American open-wheel circuits, bringing them under the umbrella of the IRL. "I'm glad that they were able to get it done," said A.J. Foyt, the first four-time winner of the Indianapolis 500 and an IRL team owner. "It'll eliminate the confusion for the race fans and the sponsors because there'll be just one type of car and one type of motor and everyone will be running together. May the best team win." After 12 years of bitter rivalry that confused fans, promoted apathy and nearly buried the sport, Champ Car agreed to cease operations, giving the surviving IRL the opportunity to rebuild open-wheel's lost prestige.
Kevin Federline beefs up security
Kevin Federline has doubled security at his home now that Britney's out of the hospital. He's seriously pissed that she was released so soon and fears she'll make a run at the boys like she did in February 2007, according to OK! Magazine: "The boys are safe for now," the source reveals to OK!. "But Kevin feels Britney is clearly deranged, and there's no telling what she'll do. After all, this is a woman who two days ago barricaded herself in her bedroom with her youngest child for three hours!" Adds the insider, "You can't get mentally well in a hospital after 36 hours." A reliable source for People revealed today that Britney's drug test was negative for drugs and alcohol echoing early reports that her episode was mental: "She tested clean," the source says. "This lady is as clean as clean can be, and has been for some time." If I were Kevin Federline, I'd have two tanks parked on my front yard.
Tax breaks? No, no, no! a thousand times, NO!
No, what we need is a goal, a revolution, and a plan to change how we live. Instead of pushing a junkie full of more junk, how about we take that money and make an impact elsewhere? What if we spent $150,000,000,000 on this? Education, training, experimentation, and research on energy production and conservation. Instead of giving every tax payer $800, spending that money on energy programs, to increase efficiency, and create new sources would still stimulate the economy, but with a rational goal in mind. How many Americans would get excited about that? How many would put their brains, energy, effort towards their, and their childrens' futures? I suspect all of us would. An energy program for the 21st Century would be a winner. It would change our perception of our country, our future, our problems.
SEXY SWEDE: Volvo's C30 creates luxury in a compact
Like many countries, Sweden has contributed to making the world a better place. The Swedes' hard work, ingenuity and long winter nights have led to a smorgasbord of accomplishments: the milking machine, the propeller, dynamite, Nicklas Lidstrom and lutefisk. All hail from Sweden -- though, honestly, lutefisk can stay there. Now, there is the Volvo C30 -- a luxurious sporty compact that can get you from Gothenburg to Stockholm faster than you can read "The Adventures of Pippi Longstocking." The C30 is a peek at the future of compacts -- small, powerful and speeding up to pretty darn expensive compared with typical small vehicles. But this is no pickled herring. .
Wayne Henning: Stadium's future rests in hands of city, residents
The hottest boomer real estate nationally is waterfront properties. Evansville has a perfect area West of The District to develop into a waterfront community of residential boomers. The cost would be small since all it would be to acquire the property for a planned community that developers would build with their money! Evansville has the prime spot to build a River walk greater than San Antonio! By building a River walk complete with shops and restaurants west of The District to Mead Johnsons. Incorporate the old Mead Johnson Terminal as an open air display area for Flea Markets, Weddings, and a better LST mooring right where the LST's were built. The area behind the River walk would be used for 5000 Frank Lloyd Wright stair stepped water front view condos.

Between the Lines Latest Post | Last 10 Posts | Archives ATL's Knowledge Discovery Capability Posted in: General I try to keep my posts non-technical, but sometimes I fail. This is one of those times. So it's probably best to skip the article below unless you played Dungeons & Dragons as a child. Accenture Technology Labs' rather generically-named Knowledge Discovery Capability (KDC) is actually a sophisticated data integration and visualization tool designed primarily for use in research and investigative fields (e.g., science, law enforcement, intelligence, disease management, capital markets, etc). The KDC stems from a disturbing statistic: Globally, government intelligence analysts spend roughly 80 percent of their time gathering information (from numerous databases) and only 20 percent analyzing it.
Sorcery and witchcraft beliefs remain prevalent in PNG
As we count down the last days of 2007, and await 2008, belief in witchcraft and sorcery is prevalent and will continue to be a major stumbling block in the new year. The young woman was believed to have killed some people in the village through sorcery. Her assailants claimed the remains of the heart of a dead person were found under her bed. They said a man who died in the area was because of a missing heart –taken out by sorcery. Everyone tended to believe this claim. A group of men stripped her naked and forced her to walk the streets, torturing her with red hot iron bars and bush knives. She was in great pain until she died few hours later. No one mourned over her and there was no funeral. She was believed to have caused many deaths through sorcery, hence, even her blood relatives did not want to be seen to be on her side.
